Hi Diane,

I'm back - unfortunately - I loved beeing there after 2 years back at the bungalows where my son nearly grew up - we have always been there for vacation nearly every year since 1994. We really had a lot of rest and slept a lot down there so that we have plenty of energy to get back to work on monday :-(.
I am looking forward to those pictures so much - in about 2 weeks I will scan some of my old ones to show them to you as soon as possible.
I havent got a scanner so I'll have to wait till I ve got one.
Give you a big Hug thank you so much I'm sorry for the trouble you have got with that but I am looking forward to them so much.

Love
Ulrike

Ha ha ha ha! Think you've covered most of Murphy's Law case scenarios... the washing of the car's a tricky one, it has to be the one time you take HOURS to REALLY get it cleaned & polished with the UTMOST faith & belief that it will NOT rain!
Perhaps shift the gummies to different locations on the stoop from time to time... defiant as well as taunting! How could Murphy resist?! He he he
The picnic tho sounds like the plan of action... even if it doesn't rain, everyone can still have a lekka time!
And just for good measure and because it's fun I'm going to dance anyway, even when the rain eventually does come!!

I've often found if I forget to bring my gumboots in they get filled with rainwater, so I'm leaving them on the doorstep in an act of defiance and secretly hoping it will tempt the clouds to gather and fill them! Mmmmm - maybe rain dance?? Also plan a picnic, or a game of tennis..... or wash the car?? Anymore ideas??

Hi Sweetie,

Thanks for the note and yes, Please post the photos for us. Right now, I'm a little behind in my stuff to do but when I get time, I'll send them to you. I'm not at all sure of how to do that and I really don't want to take time to learn right now. Other things are more important to me right now. Probably when the wheather gets a lot cooler, I'll get it done. Right now, it's so hot and muggy, it's all we can do to breathe. We stay indoors as much as we can. Thanks again for writing. Love you. Millie

Hallo Diane,

now the riddle has an answer. I do remember, that our neighbours (they were German) bought our House. So they are still the owners of Bergfried. I guess they will not know were the name comes from- I do. A small mountain like Hill in the home City where my dad was born in Thuringia the name is Saalfeld is called Bergfried. So that is were the name is from.

I would love to have a foto of what Bergfried looks like now - I am sure I will cry because my homesickness to Hogsback is really sometimes unbearable. I neary dream of it nearly every night sometimes getting really worse to bear.
I think a lot of times - my dad should have never ever sell our home there so that I could visit it as often as I like to.
I will scan a few fotos of Bergfried out of my childhood so you can see what I looked like then and what Bergfried looked like too. My dad built the main house. The small one in the backround use to have green doors and dark grey walls and a flat roof. It was the only house on the property when my father bought it. I cant remember which year it was maybe even at the end of the 60ties. Our surname was Wagner.
I am going on holiday tonight - leaving for the Canary Islands and staying there for 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to hear from you soon.
Please take care
Love
Ulrike

About Me
Hey! I'm a Hogsbackian - we don't go around telling people too much about ourselves cos we love hiding behind our clumps of forest and minding our own business - you know what I mean?? But ok........been blessed to be able to spend 27 years on the mountain and live in an environment that is the envy of many a city dweller and to be a part of a community that feels like family. I'm going to start up a regular blog as an act of "not-doing" and look forward to checking out what is happening on this website. See ya through the branches!!
I love Hogsback because......
wherever you go in the village people smile and wave at you.

Religion CAN be funny without being blasphemous

Maybe it's the weather and the general state of things in the world, but I'm needing to have a laugh to lighten up and having just got this email from my Dad - I thought I'd share with everyone here. Hope it makes you laugh and forget your troubles!

Passing over of a loved and respected Hogsbackian

For those of you who have not already heard, Joan Parry passed away yesterday in the early hours of the morning after having suffered major injuries in a car accident.

Having just said farewell to her as she left us to start a new chapter of her life in Gonubie, it is doubly sad that we now find we were bidding her farewell for the long time.

All our thoughts and sympathies are with her family who were by her side these last few difficult days as she lay in a coma.

John, Joan's son has asked… Continue

From the last two Hogsback Times email posts by Neil and Attila it would seem that the CAC guys have been rubbing some visitors up the wrong way. I immediately think "forewarned is forearmed" - and what better way to do that than through our local websites - including Ben's and Joseph and Elsa's??

Let's face it, the CAC guys are going to be around, whatever we say or do - we have to find a way to work around them and seeing as a large percentage of the visitors do check out the websites, let's… Continue
