I started to school at Hogsback in 1960 and my teacher was mrs. Lena Du Plooy and my parents Donald & Delieth Welsh managed Hobbiton-on-Hogsback together with a man by the name of Jack Press until about 1963/64 when they relocated to Port Elizabeth. My youngest sister was also christened by Rev. Lister in the st Patricks Church on the hill.
to mention a few school friends they were The Elliotts Tich and Alexa, they owned Nutwoods & one of the shops next to the post office, the van Schalkwyks, Rudolph, Blignout, their parents owned what was then called AMBLESIDE, I do not know if it still goes by the same name? Timothy Holst who's Parents owned the Arminel then.
I love Hogsback because......
The beauty and rich nature there and of course the fact that my young childhood spent there I treasure to the extent that I would like to own my own property there, which would be a dream come true.

Thanks for making contact, I started school at Hogsback 1959/1960 and visited there in 1996 and took some photos of the old school, I saw that there is a new part to it as well. after arriving back home in Richards Bay I downloaded them onto a CD and deleted those on the camera and a while after discovered that there was something wrong with the CD. Now I'm trying to get some new photos of the school that I knew of my time, can you please Help by getting some nice shots of the school outside and inside if possible? I will be so greatful to have them. you could just post them on this community network. There might be an old photo of Mrs. Lena du Plooy the teacher of that time that you may be able to photograph as well.
thank you for any and all the assistance that you may provide and I'll be so grateful if I could ask for this type of help from time to time in gathering the info of my past stay at Hogsback. I was actually staying at Hobbiton, My parents assisted in managing there at the time.
How very interesting!!! I am going up (down?) to hoggies at the end of the month and will encourage the kids to take photies and communicate with you about how the little school has evolved. I will also ask Gaylin on eof the mothers to contact you!
